Writing for the web
Writing content for the web is very different than writing for printed materials. You need to think about how people use web sites and how they are going to navigate through the pages. People tend to scan web pages. You rarely read a website from beginning to end, so every page needs be able to stand alone. To get your message across in every instance and have a clear call to action. Think about what is it people want to find out from your website and make it as easy for them as possible.
In fact, think of yourself when you are browsing the web. What irritates you the most? Websites that are confusing and overly complicated? Or websites that take too long to download because they have flash content or too many images? Or websites that just don’t tell you want you want to know. How to find their address for example or their telephone number? You’ll be surprised at how many websites fail to include good contact details!
In many cases websites are written for search engines rather than people. Both are very important. Search engines today are very sophisticated and no longer rate the number of key words you’ve included in your text. Good, relevant copy is also highly rated in search engine terms. It’s useful for visitors too! See our basic principles for web copy to help you.
Investing in professionally written web content can help turn visitors into sales. If you are developing a website and need content or maybe you already have a website but it’s just not effective, give us a call on 01457 857111 or email to discuss your requirements.
